with your hosts... Mark and

"Dancing the Charleston in the
Rain"
For some reason, rather than
having a temporary tag, our car just has a piece of paper that says our
plate is applied for. This seems kind of odd, but seemed even odder...
...when we saw three cars with the same
plates. Sort of. All three were completely different.
What's to keep one from just printing up your own? There's nothing
on the car that proves that the cars are registered with anyone.
We're just waiting to be pulled over by the police, and trying to explain
this one away. Honest, officer!
Here's our pictures of Charleston. It had started raining at this
point, but we went for a walk and took pictures anyway. This house
is REALLY pink. The picture probably doesn't convey it's pinkness.
These houses are right on the waterfront,
along the "battery"
A shot down the street, with a blue New Beetle driving down the road.
Many of the parking spots on the street along the battery are not "official"
parking spots, in that there is nothing to indicate that you are allowed
to park here. You can see there are parking spots across the street
however.
Here's a photo of a horse and buggy sitting along the street. There were
several of these along the street for tourists to ride.
This is a shot of Fort Sumter in the distance. During the Civil War,
the Union controlled this fort, and although the Confederates in Charleston
were firing at the fort, the Union commander at the fort made the decision
not to fire back on the people of Charleston.
Now we have crossed the street and are returning to our car. Needless
to say, we didn't particularly care to stay in the rain.
A picture of the sidewalk across the street that we were walking along
earlier.
Another one of the houses along the battery. These things were huge!
Here's the front door of another pink house.
Some of the cannons that fired on Fort Sumter are here. Or at least
they look like the cannons that fired on Fort Sumter. Who knows if
they really were.
One of the side roads through Charleston.
This is the historic United States Custom House.
Here's some old houses in Charleston. They are a bit run down but
they also have a lot of character.
Here's a great BBQ restaurant, Melvins! That's the name of Michael's
cat (for those of you who don't already know.) The logo of Melvin's
contains a cow, a pig, and a chicken, which are all great descriptions
of Melvin! Plus, he'd probably like to eat the food too. The
only reason we came here was because of the name.
There, was that so bad? Tomorrow, more of the same... rain that is.
But see pictures from the 78th reunion, and weather permitting, maybe even
a beach! (Probably not.)
