July 31st, We're Going Home
We spent the better part of today at the Arkansas State Capital History Archives
Since the photo's are rather boring I will only show you a couple
We are looking forward to getting back home.  It was 102 here again today with the heat index 113.  The heat here isn't all that bad because the humidity is lower than the coast.

We found more proof that her GG Grandfather Rollin Baker fought with the 24th Inf, but were unable to establish if he died there or not.  Her other GG Grandfather Lemuel was posted at a hospital when the unit was captured at Arkansas Post.  We believe that either Rollin was killed or died after being captured.

I did find Lemuel's signature on a Oath of Allegiance to the Union dated October 1863
We are not sure if he was captured or just why he took the Oath.  The Union was in control of Arkansas by that date and he may have returned home on furlough and was captured and decided to finish out the war at home???

After we checked into our motel by the Airport we ventured out to eat.  This part of Little Rock is without any establishments, food or otherwise.  We had to drive 7 miles north to a truck stop to get a bite to eat.  Well we will be glad to get back home.  The South has many beautiful area's.  The swamps and Bayou's are vibrant and quite different from anything we have in the Northwest.  We can live without the snakes, bugs, and gators.  We have now visited 47 of the lower 48 States and still are awed by the beauty of our own Pacific Northwest.  Although I think we live in the most beautiful part of the Country, the history, culture, and people of the South is what makes this part Country truly great.  I would like to thank everyone who was so nice to us on our trip and invite them to visit us up in Washington State "God's Country"
