July 29th 1999 Bradley
County Arkansas
Today we left Vicksburg
to drive up to Bradley County to do some Simpson / Baker Genealogy.
Since most photo's today were of manuscripts, and I didn't think that would
interest you, I am only showing a few pictures today
Our drive up to Arkansas was pretty
uneventful, although we encountered a few slow moving vehicles along the
way
-
At the local library in Warren
we finally found the proof that Rollin Baker fought in the Civil War
In the above book we found that
he fought with the 24th Arkansas Inf along with Glorene's other Grandpa
Lemuel and her uncles as well
-
After we left the Library we ate
at "Mollys"
Typical of most Southern Cafe's
they close at 2pm
They kept their menu on a chalkboard
-
We next went over to the Courthouse
to see what we could find there
By the way it only got to 104 degrees
today
I understand it was only about
80 back home
Read between the lines as to where
we would rather be
-
We found William Simpsons marriage
license as well as all of his grandfathers tax records for the last three
years of his life
-
One of the bigger finds was this
marriage certificate showing that Mary Glover Baker remarried a Levi Kinard
in October of 1865 which leads us to believe that Glorene's Grandfather
Rollin Baker might have been killed in the Civil War. Tomorrow we
will look at the records in Jefferson County to see if we can get more
proof
-
One last photo to keep in your
memory
Privacy was obviously of the upmost
concern in the courthouse bathrooms, better than a hole in the ground I
guess
Tomorrow we will visit Jefferson
and Arkansas County to do more genealogy and also visit the National Park
at Arkansas Post to see if we can lift a photo of Glorene's grandmother
who is on the wall there
