Well we almost made
it out of Mississippi today
We got as far as
Vicksburg and will head into Arkansas tomorrow
Our first stop was at a cemetery
where William Ruffin and his wife Sarah were supposed to have been buried.
They may be there, but there are no headstones to prove it
-
We saw many a confederate grave
with the confederate flag flying to honor them
-
We continued on the the Bay Springs
Library where we found the H.H. Daniel's collection.
Mr. Daniel's had done a lot of
research on Glorene's family, and in fact was a cousin.
He even wrote a book that include
us and our children, although we don't know where he got his information.
In any case, we didn't find much that we didn't already know.
Above is the 1840 census of 2 of
her grandfathers William Ruffin and William Simpson
-
We found this Tin Type of William
P. Simpson, one of Glorene's great uncles
-
Mary Lightfoot, possibly one of
Glorene's relations
-
After we visited the library we
ate at the Garden Patch in Bay Springs. The Chicken Fried Steak,
Fried Okra, Blackeyed Peas, and mashed potato's were great as was the service
-
They apparently don't require garbage
cans in this part of the country as we saw this type of bin with sacks
of garbage in them from Georgia through all of Mississippi
-
Last Saturday we passed this church
and I thought it was beautiful so when we passed it this time I had to
take a picture
On the next page we will vist the
Vicksburg National Battlefield
