Today (July 24th) we "attempted" to visit the public library's in Jasper and Smith County Mississippi.  Evidently they close up everything there on the weekends so we drove to Jackson the State Capitol.  The State Library was open there, until 1:00.  We got there at 12:30.  It didn't matter as they didn't have anything on those two County's anyway.  Actually we found the most information in the State Museum Gift Shop where we found some County History Books for sale.  The rest of the our drive down to New Orleans is documented below.

We noticed in one graveyard that some lady had been busy evidently.  Maybe she is on her fourth "Husband" now

We spotted this ad on a building in Smith County.  A "Lightning Loan Reund" must be so quick that they didn't have time to spell it all out

Here is some of what we found in the gift shop.  The last line are Glorene's Grandparents

The country in Mississippi was very green and lush and heavily forested and reminded us a lot of home.  Much different than we expected
-
The tree's and grass provided us with a beautiful drive.  We skipped the Freeways in favor for the backroads.  We let the map software and the GPS guide us.  We would most surely have gotten lost if we had tried it on our own.  It seemed that it took us down peoples driveways at times to take the shortest route.  On one small road a big black snake was sunning on the pavement and reared his head as we drove by to give Glorene a thrill.  She won't walk in the grass now.  She "loves" snakes.

As usual we seem to always find bad weather to drive through.  Just before we entered Louisiana a severe Thunderstorm hit and we had to stop a couple of times as we couldn't see out of the windshield.  This picture is on the highway at about 40mph.  The wipers couldn't keep up and the wind and lightning were blowing and booming around us

Well we got down to the gulf in one piece.  Our room at the LaQuinta leaves a lot to be desired but the next two nights are in the French Quarter at  http://www.dauphineorleans.com/  .  There is so much to see here that 2-3 days probably won't be enough, but we should get a good taste of the culture
