June 30th
Stamford and New Canaan CT
to Providence RI
Today we visited the New Canaan
Historical Society and had a nice visit. They have a restored tavern
that was probably frequented by several of my grandfathers. We also drove
over to see a house that was my 4th great grandfathers. Next we went
over to the Stamford Historical Society and had a nice visit there.
We left at about 6:30 and stoped for lunch midway to RI. A storm
caught up with us while we were eating and followed us all the way to RI.
Heavy rains (up to 5 inches) and tornado warnings
and lots and lots of thunder and lightning. I saw a small funnel
cloud at one point just ahead of the car. Lots of limbs down
and it seemed that all of the firestations we passed had their trucks parked
outside the buildings with the men staring at the sky. Our
radio antenna is missing so we couldn't hear the weather reports
and we wondered why so many motorists were parking under overpasses.
I figured they were just wimpy. We got here at our motel in Kingston
RI and Then learned all about how bad the storm was. Tomorrow is
supposed to be beautiful and we are planning a nice drive up to Cape Cod
and are satying at Hyannis Port MA.
An old Tavern on Oeneck Road that my grandfathers would have visited
